Engage Native Voters to Stop Voter Suppression in Arizona

NE AZ Native organizers and volunteers at Tuba City, AZ Flea Market, Navajo Nation (July 2021)

Earlier this year, the Arizona State Legislature passed over a dozen laws to make is harder for Indigenous, rural, Black, and Latino communities to cast their ballot. We can stop them.

In May, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed SB 1485, HB 2569, and many other harmful bills into law designed to undermine the will of voters. These laws strip away voting rights from citizens and nullify votes cast in the 2020 election. The Navajo County Democrats are not accepting these attacks on democracy and we are working daily to help restore democracy in Arizona.

Our team is pitching in on a statewide effort to collect 118,000 petition signatures to stop voter suppression. When we are successful with our referendum, these bad bills will be put on the ballot in 2022 and voters will have the opportunity to stop these harmful laws from ever going into effect. There are a total of seven petitions circulating for voters to sign and all of them must be submitted by mid September.

WE HAVE A DEADLINE AND WE NEED YOUR HELP

To protect the vote across sovereign-tribal lands we need to get the word out about these terrible laws a message that you can help us broadcast between now and mid-September.

Donations made to this campaign today will:

  • Train our volunteers on all seven of the referendums and initiatives about how to successfully collect signatures.

  • Pay to print educational material to bridge the knowledge gap between activists and voters.

  • Fund radio ads that will tell voters about these petitions and where and when they can sign them.

  • Purchase banners and signs to help direct foot traffic at events to our tables.

Hopi and Navajo voters sign petitions in Tuba City, AZ.

The Navajo County Democrats and Northeast Arizona Native Democrats are the only organizations on the ground — on Native land, educating voters on these issues and collecting signatures. Our program’s expertise in getting out the Native Vote in 2020 is invaluable and is our strength.

Thanks to the Daily Kos community we’ve built an incredible Native Organizing Program and we are using this network and the people power to protect voting rights now and beyond 2022.

TO HELP STOP VOTER SUPPRESSION IN ARIZONA DONATE TO OUR VOTER PROTECTION EFFORTS TODAY!

We can protect voting rights and education in our state. We just have to organize and collect those signatures.

Thank you for continued support and making sure Arizona turns ever more blue.
