Arizona needs more Native Democratic representation in our state legislature

Family Votes Matriarchs get things done! Lorraine Coin, Hopi, connects with and recruits Hopi community members to join #FamilyVotes.

Teamwork makes the dream work! We have a phenomenal team of Native and non-Native volunteers and organizers who step up time and again. This past week we were made aware that several LD06 candidates needed real help with signatures or were unsure or unaware of the candidate process and deadlines with the Party or Sec. of State. OR have a limited budget. Point is, they needed support and help understanding the system. And they turned to our amazing Chair of the Navajo County Democrats Missa Foy (who volunteers ALL her time) and team for guidance.

This is what happened next; Missa and team activated an extensive network of volunteers and organizers to get the work done and coordinate tabling events, drop off/pick up points, text messages, phone calls, and so much more.

Here's where we are:

We had and are continuing to have tabling events and one-on-ones in Kayenta, Chinle, Winslow, Leupp, Crossroads, Whiteriver, and everywhere in between.

+ Chinle Flea Market - Casey, Wade and volunteers

+ Leupp Flea Market - Mae and volunteers

+ Teec Nos Pos - Priscilla, John, and volunteers

+ Winslow - Missa and Jacob

+ Dilcon - Glenn

+ Kayenta Vendor Village - Case and Wade

+ Whiteriver - Marian

+ Hopi - Lorraine

Please get in touch with an organizer and volunteer near you to sign paper petitions* and update your voter registration. We are working on a tight deadline to make sure all candidates have the paperwork to turn in before April 4th. Even earlier would be better because of how expansive travel is across LD06 and we need to coordinate deliveries all across tribal and non-tribal lands; Navajo, Hopi, Apache, and bordertowns. This is a major feat and we need everyone’s help. [See phone numbers on contact card]

*Only paper petitions are available to sign for LD06 candidates. No online petitions.*

*We have three candidates running for the state house. Incumbent Myron Tsosie of Chinle and two challengers Deydrek Scott of Tuba City and Mae Peshlakai from Cameron. People can only sign for two of these three candidates. *

Everyone can sign for Senate Incumbent Theresa Hatathlie

Our plan:
On March 21st we alerted all our organizers and volunteers to table as much as possible to get signatures and update voter registration by March 30th. There may be some room after this date, but we are being conservative with our time, because we also have couriers on standby who will then travel to various pick up points throughout the county including sovereign lands to then get the petitions to our contacts in Flagstaff (who are also helping validate signatures) then carry them to our point person in Phoenix to get them in by the deadline. It's a very elaborate and labor intensive process, but it must be done. We need Democratic candidates on the ballot and we must ensure Indigenous candidates and communities are also heard.

Shout out:
Thanks to Eric Kramer and his team for the hot dogs and KTNN radio announcement about our Kayenta event this past Wed.

Special shout out to our organizers and matriarchs who give so much of their time and step up when we need you.

Thanks to everyone who has helped get the word out, willing to table, donated gas cards, made calls, sent text messages, bought radio time, signed up to be couriers, and so much more.
